  • Vitamin D is well known in its endogenous form: the skin is able to synthesize a considerable amount when it is exposed to sunlight for a long period.

As a dietary supplement it is a liposoluble vitamin absorbed slowly and it has up to 40% bio availability in cholecalciferol, vitamin D3. It is metabolised in the liver and the kidneys in 1.25 – dehydrovitamins, e.g. 25OHD to be activated. It is an excellent source of vitamin D.

Healthcare specialists are well aware of the way it works and how important it is for good health.

It ensures bone minerals and maintains calcium homeostasy. Other beneficial effects have been observed when the cholecalciferol dose is properly administered. The most recent scientific journals have brought to light that a low rate of 25OHD, < 20ng/mol, is linked to chronic illnesses, for example: diabetes, bone disease and a dozen different types of cancer: breast, prostate, kidney, bowel[1]… as well as cardiovascular diseases.

Those who live in places where there is little or no exposure to sunlight are most likely subject to vitamin D3 deficiency. According to specialists this affects around 1 billion people[2] . For those who are the most vulnerable, such as old people as synthesis of 25OHD decreases 4-fold because of skin ageing.

Maintaining the good rate of 25OHD strengthens bones and the immune system, lowers risk of fractures, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes[3].
