What is vitamin D3?
Vitamin D, also known as cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble hormone that is part of one of the many nutrients that the body needs in order to stay healthy. The term "vitamin D" refers to several different forms, of which the two most active in the body are:
Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) produced by plants.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) which is synthesized by the skin under the action of the sun or provided by food .

Over the past decade, it has become clear that vitamin K has an important role to play in human health that goes beyond its well-established function in blood clotting . Indeed, the combination of the two vitamins is beneficial and allows the activation and synthesis of osteocalcin in the presence of vitamin D3. Vitamin K2 is the substance that gives life to the vitamin D dependent protein. While vitamin D3 acts as a signal molecule, telling cells to make certain proteins, vitamin K2 activates these proteins by giving them the physical ability to bind themselves to the calcium. In some cases, these proteins directly coordinate the movement or the organisation of calcium itself; in other cases, calcium acts as a glue to hold the protein in a certain form. In all these cases, the proteins are functional only after they have been activated by vitamin K2 . More interestingly, vitamin C has been shown to specifically influence the activity of 25 (OH) D3-1-hidroxylase ("non-active" vitamin D3), the enzyme responsible for the transformation of 25 (OH) D3 into 1,25 (OH) 2D3, the active form of vitamin D3. Its concentration is essential for optimal absorption of calcium from the gut and for bone mineralization. The activation of this hormone, vitamin D3, is essential to ensure optimal synergy and efficiency in the body.

Vitamin D extracted from lanolin is a form of hormone known as "bio-identity", i.e. biologically identical to that which humans produce naturally.
